BAS Vein Treatment Masterclass Speakers: Varicose vein treatments in 2020

Prof Bruce Campbell (Consultant Vascular Surgeon Exeter Medical, Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and University of Exeter, Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter Medical School) One of the UK’s most experienced vein experts, Prof Campbell has led major research studies on varicose vein treatments and has written and lectured extensively on new treatments for varicose veins. He is a Council Member of the Venous Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine and was a leader of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland for many years. He chaired the NICE Advisory Committees on interventional procedures 2002-15, and is currently is a Non-Executive Director of the MHRA.

 

Mr Manjit Gohel (Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon Cambridge University Hospitals, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and holds and Associate Lectureship at the University of Cambridge).Mr Gohel is internationally recognised expert in the treatment of varicose veins, venous skin damage, leg ulcers and deep vein disorders and he was an investigator in the ESCHAR and EVRA venous ulcer trials.
Specific clinical interests include deep and superficial venous disease and complex aortic disease. He regularly uses the latest minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins (including radiofrequency ablation, glue treatment and foam sclerotherapy) and the latest stenting technology for narrowed or blocked deep veins, and over the last 12 years has performed over 1,500 keyhole varicose vein procedures. He is the Honorary Secretary of the RSM Venous Forum.

Mr Philip Coleridge Smith (Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Medical Director, British Vein Institute).Mr Coleridge Smith pioneered the introduction of duplex ultrasonography in the clinical investigation of venous disease in the UK and is an expert in the treatment of venous disease using minimally invasive methods. He led the introduction of UGFS into the UK, and is well known for his many publications on venous disease, particularly those related to the pathogenesis of venous ulceration. Past Editor-in-Chief of Phlebology Journal and past editor of the European Journal for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, he is a sought after Forensic Expert Witness and President of the British Association of Sclerotherapists.

Dr Stephen Tristram, Consultant Vascular Physician at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Hampshire Clinic, he has managed the varicose vein and leg ulcer service since 1976. He was involved in the development of ultrasound guided techniques for the treatment of varicose veins and led a large European study in 2001. He lectures widely on his interests and sits on the BUPA Consensus Panel for vascular treatments. Steve has held the office of Chair of the British Association of Sclerotherapists since 2012.

Dr Haroun Gajraj, a consultant vascular surgeon in the NHS for 13 years Dr Gajraj left the NHS in 2008 to specialise exclusively in venous disease – the specialty of phlebology. In addition to his clinical work he is Medical Director of the Melbury Clinic & VeinCare Centre in Dorset. He was a founding member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists in 2002, and is currently a member of the board.

Mr Zola Mzimba, Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at the Western Health and Social Care Trust, Northern Ireland, and a Registered Phlebology Sonographer. Mr Mzimba specialises in venous disease, renal failure surgery and vascular access, and performs non-arterial vascular surgery. He joined the board of the British Association of Sclerotherapists in November 2019.
